I usually watch free movies online for the purpose of being entertained only by European movies, but this is a good African movie not to miss directed by Moufida Tlatli, an highly regarded author in the Tunisian cinema. She graduated in Film-editing in France and has participated as an editor in many of the most important Tunisian movies of the last 15 years. Her directorial debut, “Les Silences du Palais” in 1993, has gathered critical acclaim and large audiences at numerous festivals, including Cannes and Toronto. After many years Moufida has returned to the movies with this “La saison des hommes”, awarded at numerous film festivals. The story is set almost entirely in Djerba, an island where every tradition is still observed with great respect and anxiety. Djerba is an island populated almost exclusively by young Tunisian women, because men are forced to emigrate to find work in the nearest city.
